What does this year have in store? I’m hoping the good things will outweigh the bad. As January 2012 eases onto stage, the weather in suburban Philadelphia has turned seasonably cold but significant snow has yet to materialize.
My bird feeder, despite the black oil sunflower seeds, seems to be attracting fewer birds than in past years. Where have they gone? But the squirrels, those small devils in gray fur coats, seem to be multiplying with no dog to keep them at bay.
Perhaps, come spring we’ll welcome a new dog into our home. I’m looking forward to the prospect. Squirrels …. Beware.
After feeding birds for more than 5 years in Lansdale, I’ve seen no birds and few squirrels for several months now. This may be due to a rise in the number of hawks. I’d heard that last Winter and Spring had been hard, driving predators from the woods into the suburbs. But this Fall has been mild, so I’m doubtful that hawks are again the cause.
